Frank Heemskerk appointed new Secretary General of the European Round Table of Industrialists

The European Round Table of Industrialists (ERT) has appointed Frank Heemskerk as ERT Secretary General with effect from 1 January 2019. He will take over from Brian Ager who will retire in January after 8 years in the role.

Frank is a Dutch national who has served at the World Bank and has held positions in both the public and private sector in the Netherlands.

It is an honour to become the Secretary General of the European Round Table of Industrialists (ERT) in these critical times for Europe. The ERT is a unique platform of the leaders of Europe’s largest businesses. I look forward to contributing to the positive case for industry as a creator of growth and prosperity for all citizens, and of European values such as innovation, cooperation and sustainability.

Frank Heemskerk (Haarlem, The Netherlands, July 26, 1969) is since 2013 Executive Director at the World Bank Group, representing the ‘Dutch’ Constituency of Armenia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Georgia, Israel, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, The Netherlands, Romania and Ukraine.

Previously, Frank Heemskerk was member of the Managing Board of Royal HaskoningDHV, an engineering and project management consultancy with 7,000 staff members and 100 offices worldwide.

Preceding this position, he served from 2007 to 2010 as Minister for Foreign Trade of the Netherlands. During this period, he was also responsible for the Post, Telecom, ICT, Consumer Policy and Tourism.

From 2003 to 2006, he was member of the House of Representatives of the Netherlands for the PvdA (Labour Party).

He started his career at ABN AMRO Bank in 1995 and then held various positions.

Frank Heemskerk graduated in 1994 from the University of Amsterdam, faculty of Economics and was an Erasmus student at KU Leuven.

As of November 2018, he will be a visiting lecturer in Geo-Economics at Leiden University, faculty of Governance and Global Affairs.

Frank Heemskerk is married and has a daughter (16) and a son (15) and like many Dutch citizens he is an enthusiastic biker.
